This is a practical informative pamphlet entitled
Prescription Writing: A Reference for New York State Prescribers;
a reference which contains essential regulations – paraphrased – governing
verbal and written prescriptions for controlled and noncontrolled
drugs, syringes, needles, and Medicaid. This provides information
about prescribing and particulars of law that are relevant to both
prescribers and pharmacists.
Not only will prescribers benefit but
also their office staff, their patients, and the pharmacy staff
in the community. The pamphlet is one of the initiatives undertaken
by the Joint Physician Pharmacist Group (JPPG).
The JPPG is made up of willing physicians and pharmacists that
have come together to achieve a common goal: to foster and enhance
communication between physicians and pharmacists for the purposes
of improving patient care and streamlining interactions between
the two disciplines.
It is hoped that, with a better understanding
of formal and informal constraints on prescription writing, time
and work efficiency can be achieved by prescribers and pharmacies.
Said more plainly, the volume of phone calls between pharmacies
and medical practices should decrease.
Broad-reaching education is
needed to achieve this goal; we feel that dissemination of the
pamphlet is one necessary component. Please make copies of the pamphlet
and distribute to those involved in the prescriptive process around
you.
